Toprak’s 2025 WorldSBK Season: the comeback from a struggled start
The 2025 World Superbike season was nothing but a pure challenge for Toprak. A fierce head-to-head between Toprak and Ducati’s star Nicolo Bulega. The young Italian’s early victories hinted the title challenge. Toprak had a disaster start in Phillip Island, followed by a triple victory at Portimão. But it was a singular achievement: the Turkish rider had difficult a difficult weekend too in Assen and couldn’t beat Bulega on Cremona, were the Italian seemed untouchable. The changes and constrains in Toprak’s BMW – no longer taking advantage of the technical concessions – made for a troubled first third of the championship.
Fortunes started to reverse in Most: as the season unfolded, Toprak’s experience and consistency shone through. “El Turco” finally found the feeling and set up with his M 1000 RR and started to display his signature style: impossible saves, late braking from another planet, and daring passes that only he could make stick.
The turning point came at Misano, where Toprak completed a hat-trick of wins — taking Race 1, the Superpole Race, and Race 2 on Ducati’s home ground. From then onward, Toprak went on a tear — racking up 13 consecutive wins, setting lap records. At Balaton Park, he conquered the historical WorldSBK 1000th Race and, for the first time in the season, put himself as leader of the overall classification.
After another triplet at Magny-Cours, Bulega put end to Toprak’s winning strike at Aragon. After all-time classic battle, both traded wins and second places, but Razgatlıoğlu keep cementing his control over the title race: by the time the championship reached Estoril, Toprak had built a commanding lead.
Under the Spanish sun at Circuito de Jerez, the story came full circle. Toprak finished his final WorldSBK race the same way he began his career — with fireworks, wheelies, and an unshakeable grin. When the checkered flag fell, the crowd rose in unison to salute not just the 2025 SBK World Champion, but the spirit of Superbike itself.
A Champion’s Legacy
With the 2025 crown, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu closes his WorldSBK career as one of the Superbike all-time greats.
His three WorldSBK titles are not a new record, but for those who have seen how had been achieved, each title nearly double in weight. The 2021 crown came after an epic fight between him, Rea – the all-time WorldSBK recordman! – and Bautista, giving Yamaha his second WorldSBK crown ever.
If the Yamaha wasn’t the most competitive ride on the grid, Toprak would make an even more unexpected move when he switched to BMW. Many expected nothing and for even some it was the end of his career. But Toprak and all the team and BMW were able to extract the best of the M 1000 RR and transform the potential of a bike that before was in the back of the grid. Now, after a second consecutive title for the Bavarian brand, Toprak leaves an enduring memory for all WorldSBK fans.
But Toprak’s legacy is not only his results. It’s a riding style that redefined what’s possible on a Superbike. It’s a strong but also kind personality.
